Prologue
“What do you mean you can’t be with me?!” I asked Jake stunned. He simply sighed. “Her name is Satiana.” I was too numb to understand or even hope to comprehend where he was getting at. “Are you admitting to cheating on me or something?” He shook his head. “No. I just don’t feel the way I once felt about you and I like someone else.” I stared at him. “You had to like my best friend didn’t you?! You had to ruin my relationship…That’s just like you…” I whispered. He started to walk away. “Goodbye Skyy.” I glumly walked to gym class.
That’s when I saw him.

I suppose I should explain my looks. I have brown eyes and dirty blonde hair. I’m thirteen years old. Well we were in Physical Ed when I saw him. I walked in and sat down not paying any attention to him. When we started to play six way soccer, I stood up to protect my goal. Adrian was up for a penalty for hand ball and he was the kicker to our goal. He locked his eyes on me. We stared at each other then someone called his name and next thing I knew, I was air born with a ball in my gut knocking me into the bleachers behind me knocking me out. Everything went black.
“She’s coming around, you can go home Adrian.” The nurse said through the darkness. There was a sigh.
“No it’s alright, I’ll take her home. She lives next to me.” I sat up holding my head. “What happened?” I asked. “When I kicked the ball, you caught it and it knocked you off your feet sending you flying into the bleachers behind you hitting your head and knocking you unconscious.” I looked at him with narrowed eyes. “How long have I been out?” He shrugged. “Three, four hours…” My eyes widened. “WHAT?!? I GOT TO GET HOME!! IVE BEEN HERE TO LONG!!!” I tried to stand up but I fell and he caught me. I looked into his eyes and he looked into mine. We held each others stare and he picked up my backpack looking away. “I’ll…carry this for you…” he said. “Thank you…” He looked at me with this breath taking smile. “No problem. I owe you…” I turned away. ‘The most popular guy in school…and he doesn’t hate me…WOW.’ I thought. I caught him staring at me on the walk home, he smirked and looked away. “Yes?” I asked. “Nothing…your just…beautiful…that’s all.” I blushed. ‘That’s all? What a compliment!’ I laughed a little. “You have a stunning laugh…” he stared at me surprised. “Why thank you sir!” I bowed. He laughed a warm laughed. “No, Thank YOU madam!” He bowed as well. We both kept walking and laughing talking about my favorite colors and we liked a lot of the same things. He was perfect in every way to me.
I sat there in my bed fantasizing about him, he was so…so different from all the other boys. I sighed in frustration. There is no way that he would like a simple, annoying girl like me. I picked up a picture of my old boyfriend Jake Hollaw. “Goodbye! Sayonara! Hasta La vista, and GOOD REDENCE!” I tossed the picture into the trash can. I smiled and then jumped when there was a knock at my door. I got up and answered it. “Hi mom! What’s up?” She smiled. “You have a visitor.” I sighed. I was having so much fun with my fantasies that I didn’t want to leave them. But unwillingly I did. And when I answered the door. My heart skipped a beat. It was Adrian! “Hey Skyy.” I gawked at him. He saw my mouth open and closed it. “I’m here to ask if you can help me with my homework…that’s all.” He looked away then turned back to me with the same breath taking smile. To my surprise he was actually waiting. “Come on.” He said. “I-I don’t think that’s a g-good Idea…I-I mean-” He cut me off. “If you’re not going to move willingly…then…” Next thing I knew he had picked me up and he was carrying me down the stairs. “A-ADRIAN WHAT ARE YOU DOING!” My face was as red as a cherry. “Isn’t it obvious?” He asked. “I’m carrying you!” He smirked. “MOM!! A LITTLE HELP PLEASE!!” She peaked her head out of the front door. “You kids have fun now!” She yelled back. “WHAT?! OH, THANKS MOM YOU’RE LOADS OF HELP!” I yelled back sarcastically.
When we got to his house he dumped me on his bed and laughed. “You really are hilarious to watch. You should have your own show!” I rolled my eyes. “Oh, ha ha…I’m laughing so hard my sides are splitting.” He was staring at me again. “What?” He sighed. “Nothing.” I looked around at the empty rooms. “Sooooo where are your parents?” I asked. It went quit. “They…are dead actually…” he mumbled almost so low I couldn’t hear him. “Oh…OH! I’m so sorry Adrian!” I wanted to hit myself with a truck…what an idiot I am! “No…no…it’s alright…it’s your right to know. It’s not like being nosy or anything.” He smiled. “So what do you need help with? Math? Science? Social Studies?” He shook his head. “No.” He turned away. “I have a girl problem…I like a girl at school.” My heart broke. “Oh.” was my only reply. “What’s her name?” He blushed. “Jenny…” He replied. ‘Jenny? JENNY?! The cheerleader?! Man I’m no competition!’ At that moment I knew…they were going to be together…and there was nothing I could do.

I walked to school glumly the next day. I didn’t feel like taking a bus and all the questions. I just walked away from everyone in the locker rooms at P.E. I sat there by the bleachers. When one of the students kicked the ball on top of the bleachers, I volunteered to get the ball. As I was climbing the closed bleachers I was thinking, ‘They are waiting for me…I better hurry.’ I climbed faster and when I got to the top, I grabbed the ball. I was about to get back down when I slipped and fell. My heart was racing, the only think that went through my mind was, ‘Adrian’ after that I felt someone holding me. “Skyy are you alright?!” I looked up at his handsome face. “A-Adrain?” I was trying to process what happened. “You had me worried sick! Don’t you ever…EVER do that again!” He yelled at me ignoring the people around me. “How, When?” I asked still stunned. “romise me…that you’ll never do that again…romise me!” He glared at me. He held me close to him. “I…I promise…b-but why?” He looked at me. “If you died…I would kill myself…” was all he said. “Adrian! How could you say that?!” I yelled at him. His face expression was pain. “Just trust me…” Was all he said. He got up and helped me up. “You a precious to me Skyy…” he said. “Adrain I-” Jenny ran up and interrupted me. “Adrian that was so totally amazing!” His face turned red. “Yeah whatever…” Was all he said. I got up and ran away. Away from him, her and the rest away from the world. I didn’t care that he was calling my name in concern, all I wanted was to be alone…alone.
At home I sat there in my room. “Skyy? Honey are you alright?” my mother called. “GO AWAY!” I yelled. She opened the door. “You have a visitor though.” She replied calmly. “Mom I don’t wan-” Adrian ran into the room and wrapped his arms around me. “A-Adrian…what are you doing?” I stuttered in confusion. “I’m sorry…for scaring you like that.” I blinked. “Wha-? Oh in P.E.?” He nodded. “I guess I should tell you what happened huh?” He asked. “Ummm sure but could you uh kinda…” He lets go. “Oh sorry.” He looked at me with concern. “It’s okay…” I smiled. “Well, when you fell I sort of thought about you and well…it was a rush so I ran as fast as I could and slid across the ground and caught you.” I looked away. “Oh.” Was all I said. ‘There is no way he liked me enough and besi-’ My thoughts were interrupted by a knock on my door. “I got it.” said Adrian as he got up to answer it. “Oh hi Jenny…what are you doing here?” He asked blushing. “C’mon lets like dis this loser and like go to the movies or something!” she pleaded. “But this loser is my frie-” She grabbed his arm and ran off with him leaving me sitting there…ready to kill Jenny.
The next day at school was a killer. I sat there depressed seeing Adrain enjoying himself with her. I was doing my best to ignore it but if you sat right next to her to, you would know my pain. The way he looked at her…it was so wrong to me. Along came P.E. When I walked in they were hugging. I sighed and walked over to my friends Izzy and Ana. “Hey girls.” They turned to me. “HEYYYYY SKYYYY!!!” Ana said happily. I looked down. Little did I know it was going to be a very depressing day. After Ana hugged me we began to play dodge ball. I looked at the blue ball I had just caught. I didn’t care that I had just saved our team from loosing the game. I looked over at Jenny who looked mad. She threw a ball at someone. “HA! SUCK ON THAT!!” She yelled at them. I looked down, my friend Ana Moc grabbed the ball from my hand and threw it at her. “SUCK ON THAT!” Ana screamed at Jenny. Next thing I knew there were police men in the room, looking for me.

“Skyy Eckhoff?” asked the tall one with the mustache. “T-that’s me…” I said quietly and walked over. Adrain pulled away from Jenny and ran over to me. “Skyy…it’s your dad…” my eyes widened. “What?” I asked courageously. “He’s…dead.” Suddenly I didn’t feel so courageous. My legs began to tremble. My whole body did. “W-what?!” I screamed to shocked for tears. “I’m sorry.” “I’M SURE YOU ARE!” I said trembling. “I’m sure you are…” I said quietly Adrain looked at me. “Skyy…” He said quietly. “NO JUST LEAVE ME ALONE!!!” I screamed so loud then everything began to spin and I fell to the ground stuttering something that even I didn’t get. Adrain ran to my side. “Suzuki!!” he screamed. “Wait what?” I muttered. Now I was starting to shiver. “Who is Suzuki?” I asked him. The cops came back in with the ambulance. “Young lady are you okay?” They asked me. “Yes.” I looked at Adrain. He smiled at me. I got up not saying anything and walked from there and jenny burst out laughing. “WOW! Now that that’s taken care of, lets like, get back to the game!” Izzy held back Ana from hitting Jenny. “Let the, like, princess be. What goes around comes around.” They walked away and Adrain followed. “Adrain! Like, were are you going?” Jenny asked surprised. He just looked at her and shook his head in disgust. Outside I sat there and stared at the blunt white wall in the freeway. Ana glared at Adrain but he ignored her and walked over to me. I stared at nothing. So him grabbing me and holding me took me by surprise. Slowly rocking me. I just sat there in his arms. “He’s gone and nothing is going to change that” He said quietly and I burst into tears. “But I’m right here for you Skyy.” He said finally. I looked at him. He stared at me, pain in his eyes. “I know your pain Skyy…and I’m here for you like you’ve been here for me.” He looked into my eyes.
I kept crying, finally feeling his pain. “Awwwww its okay!” he soothed. That’s when Jenny came out mad as ever. “I got to go.” He said.

The next day of school I rode the bus and when I got of I saw Adrian and Jenny holding hands. I glared at him and walked away past him to get to the building. He saw me and kissed her on the cheek and ran over to me. “Hey Skyy.” I ignored him. “Hello?! Anyone in there?” He tapped me on the head. I smacked his hand away. “Get lost.” He stared at me. “Skyy?” he asked questionable. “I hate you now go away Adrian. Anyone who hangs out with –I filtered my eyelashes- Jenny Shlaw! The like totally popular girl in like the whole school!” I said mockingly. He glared at me. “What’s your problem?!” He growled. “I cant believe I trusted you to understand…” he mumbled. I walked a little faster. “Yeah?! Well I can’t believe I was your friend!” The expression on his face looked like id slapped him. I slammed the door behind me as he just stood there.
When I got home I jumped on my bed. “Why did I say that?” I murmured to myself. There was a gentle knock at my door. “Skyy? Can I come in?” It was Adrian. “NO. GO AWAY.” I yelled without yelling. “ lease?” he begged. “Go make out with Jenny Shlaw!” I yelled. There was a pause. “If you don’t want me to be your friend anymore…” He paused long enough for me to interrupt. “NO! I DON’T!” I yelled. There was a long pause. “Goodbye Skyy…I guess I’ll see you around…” he mumbled quietly. There was the sound of heavy footprints then a door slamming. I looked at his picture in the Tigers year book and sighed. “What have I done?” I asked myself.
“Come on Adrian! Kiss me already! I’ve been like, waiting for like, an hour or so! Were have you been?”Jenny pleaded. “Sorry, sorry, I’ve been with an old friend.” He replied slowly. “Oh you mean that ugly girl Ske?” She asked. “No…Skyy.” He replied. “Yeah whatever…Ske, Skyy big difference!” She grabbed his shirt calor and started to kiss him. He pushed her away. “I’m sorry but I can’t do this…” He said looking away. “Why?!” She demanded. “I don’t know…” He replied. It started to rain. “Then like, kiss me!” He3shook his head when he felt a tug at his heart. “No I can’t because…” At that moment an image of Skyy through his mind. His eyes widened. ‘That’s why…’ he thought. “Like, hello?!” She yelled. He stood up and started running as quickly as he could. “Hey! Were are you going?!” She yelled to him. “To find Skyy! See ya!” He yelled happily.
When he got to my house he knocked violently. My mom answered. “Oh Adrian hi how ar-”
“Good! Were is Skyy?!” She blinked
. “Uh she just went for a walk…” she replied. Adrian ran down the stairs and ran down the side walk. He saw me in the distance on the ground shivering about 30 miles away from home. Completely out of breath he pushed himself to the limit and caught up with me. “Skyy! Oh my god!” He bend down and took off his jacket wrapping me in it. “A-A-Adrian-n-n?” I stuttered through chattering teeth. “Y-yes-s-s-s?” He stuttered back. “-p-p-put your j-j-jacket b-back on-n!” I yelled at him.
“I’m f-f-fine real-l-ly! N-now…why d-did you c-come out in t-t-the rain?” I looked up at him. “B- because i-I came l-l-looking for you s-so I could a-apologize….” He hugged me more tightly. “L-lets g-go home.”
When we were all dried off I looked at him. “Am I forgiven?” He nodded then smiled a wicked smile.
“A-a-a-apologize accepted.” I hit him in the arm. “Oh ha ha.” His faced turned serious. “Skyy you should be more carful when going in the ran like that.” My face turned red. “Ah well…now.” I said quietly. He blinked and sighed. “What’s that suppose to mean? He asked. “Ohhh nothing…” I giggled. I stared at him. “You should go, before my mom gets home.”
“To late.” We both whirled around to face my mother. She just laughed her honey laugh. “Have fun you two.” She said and walked away. I looked at him. “So what now?” He didn’t say anything. “Skyy i-” he was interrupted by a knock on my door. The Jenny burst in. “ADRIAN!! C’MON!” she grabbed him. “Wait I have to tell Skyy-” he was gone. I just sighed. The next day I was walking to my class when I saw Jenny and him walking together. I was still glaring at her when I ran right into a gorgeous boy. “Om my gosh I am SO sorry!” I said blushing embarrassed. He was new here. He looked at me then smiled. “Hello.” He said calmly holding his chin. “Are you alright?” we asked at the same time. “Yes what about you?” we said at the same time again and I remained quiet as did he. I just started to pick up his papers when our hands touched and at the same time we jerked our hands back after feeling an electric shock. He blushed in surprise. “My name is Mike…Mike McKnight…” he said quietly. “Skyy Eckhoff…” I replied avoiding his eyes. Suddenly without any warning what’s so ever, he felt my forehead. “You have quiet a bump there…” I got up and then got a shove by Jenny, who of course thought it was hysterical and was caught by Mike. “What a prep…I hate those kind of girls.” He growled. “So annoying…” I looked at him in disbelief. “Really?! Tell me what you think about anime…” Suddenly all my feelings for Adrain faded away.
The next day Adrain walked up to me. “S-Skyy…” he asked blushing. “Yes?” I asked staring at my NEW best friend. “Will you go out with me?” he asked catching his breath then everyone stared at us and Mike flinched. “No.” I said with no regret. That surprised him. “What do you mean no?!” he said nervously. I stood up. “No.” he blinked. “Just one dat-” “No. ” That’s when he got upset. “LOOK! I BROKE UP WITH JENNY SO I COULD BE WITH YOU AND NOW YOUR SAYING NO?!?!” he screamed. Everyone in the cafeteria was staring at us. “Yes. That’s exactly it smart one! Oh wow lets all give him a round of applause! He is SUCH a smart person!” I snapped and he slapped me. Out of no were he slapped me. That’s when he fell to the ground. I felt dizzy, this wasn’t the Adrain I remembered…or was this really him all along? “DON’T YOU DARE TOUCH HER!” I heard Mike scream. My focus came back to me in time to see Mike pick him up by his shirt collar and through him at the wall. Adrain had a busted lip and now his head was bleeding, he was slipping in and out of consciousness. Finally after all that, Mike turned to me with a worried look. “Skyy? Are you alright?” I just stared at him. Then I looked at Adrain who was surrounded by people and screams, finally the teachers noticed and ran over, getting him to the nurse before he lost to much blood. Mike helped me up.
“I-I’m alright…” I stuttered, still shocked. A teacher walked up.
“Michael McKnight? Come with us please.” He said quietly. I looked at mike, concerned. He just smiled and waved. He mouthed the words, ‘I’m going to be fine’ then he was gone. About an hour later, he came back to science class and sat down with me getting to work. Since we could have partners, I teamed up with him and started asking questions about what they did or asked him and he said that they let him go for defending me. After school we went to the coffee shop to talk some more. I was really starting to like this guy but I didn’t want to get to close to him because I was scared that he would fall in love with someone else but he never seemed to mention another girl. Which of course not only made me happy but make me want him even more.

Mike and I were walking home from school when he turned to me and gave me a look that was new for him. “Skyy? Will you go to the prom with me…you know…as friends? Since I’m new to this school and all?” He asked casually. I just stared at him. Why hadn’t he fallen victim to Jenny’s “erfectness” as she puts it? Why was he so different from the rest? Why was he so….perfect?
“Oh yeah and Skyy? I know you like football and all, I won theses tickets to a football game here and since I know no one else who likes it as much as you, so do you want to go? And don’t think of it as a date, just friends.” He laughs a little as do I.
“Sure Mike! Your right I do love football…So I guess ill go.” I smile at him.
“See you at Seven?” He looks at me curiously. “Or are you busy then?”
“No that’s fine. Bye!”
“See ya.”
At seven I sat there drawing random sketches of chibi’s when my phone beeped. I grabbed it and there was a text from Mike. It read: Com outside . I grabbed my coat and walked outside and met up with him. “Hi!” He looked at me and smiled, his way of saying hello sometimes.
We got there and sat in the middle, not many people came. I’m not going to lie, we don’t have the best team out there. The game began and I watched with anticipation. I get really hyper with this kind of stuff. “Wow! This game is great! Just loo- ” I broke right in the middle of my sentence. Infront of us were a couple making out.
“Whats up?”
“…I wonder what its like….” I mumbled without noticing it.
“What, whats like?” Mike looked at me confused.
